LET IT ALL OUT!

FOMO used to make me say yes to everything, and made me go everywhere. It made me do things I knew I would not enjoy.

I often feel alone within a group....

When I didn't know who I wanted to be, I experienced a lot of FOMO. I personally think that not knowing who I was and not having the people around me who were right for me gave the greatest feeling of FOMO for me. I didn't really like the people around me and I missed the feeling of belonging. When I found out what is important to me and what people belong here, FOMO has become much less for me and I have a lot more peace when I can't be with something.

When I moved to another city it made me miss Rotterdam and my friends a lot. The study that I did asked for a lot of time and was very strict. Because of this I was working the whole week. That is why I always wanted to go out in the weekends. Just to celebrate the hard work and see all my friends and catch up about our weeks. It was really about feeling free from my responsibilities and enjoying the people surrounding me.

FOMO to me is making sure that you’re prepared for the happening itself. Like memorizing hit songs in your group, buying the right stuff, putting on the right clothes, etc. At some point, it doesn’t even feel like you’re changing

FOMO is when you’re at the event and you still feel like you’re missing out, cause everyone around you seems to be having a lot more fun

I never say Yes to party’s, vacations, other fun things with people, scared that I will miss something that’s more fun

I sometimes experience FOMO when my friends are having fun without me (especially when posting that on social media). It makes me feel excluded and not needed for them

In the midst of the era of choosing, we, four graphic design students, have decided to put focus on the phenomenon FOMO. Also known as the ‘fear of missing out’, the spectacle is based on the idea you’ll miss out if you make the wrong choice. Expressed in many ways, with our manifesto we’re asking for the normalization of discussing the issue.

I always have FOMO, when my friends are hanging out without me, I’m very afraid they’re having the best time without me. I’d rather always be there and not always have fun, than not be there.

I feel FOMO when I’m chatting with people but all of them seem to be able to talk over a mutual experience they had. It makes me wonder what they think of me

I think the first time I felt FOMO was when I was pretty young and trying to fit into this idea of a day to day Dutch girl. Me being black meant my mom valued her own traditions and was trying to pass them onto me, but being influenced by the people around me made me feel like I wouldn’t fit in because I was missing out.
